Everyday Beauty: A Free Webinar on Japanese Art

Almond Blossoms, by Vincent van GoghWe’re excited to announce the first-ever Classical Pursuits webinar! We invite you to join us and Sean Forester on May 26 for a free webinar on Japanese art. Drawing on his experience as an artist, Sean will explore the connections between calligraphy and garden design, Zen and haiku poetry, and Japanese woodblock prints. He’ll also discuss the influence of Japanese art and aesthetics on Western artists, particularly Impressionists in France and the United States.

All are welcome and special software is not required. Once you register, our travel partner Worldwide Quest will send you an email with details on how to log in the day of the webinar. You can also participate by phone.

Date: Thursday, May 26, 2016
Time: 2 p.m. Eastern / noon Central / 11 a.m. Pacific
Duration: 60 minutes, including a Q&A period

This webinar is part of our preparations for the Travel Pursuit Everyday Beauty: Art and Culture in Tokyo and Kyoto which Sean will lead in November 2016. The trip will be a unique way to understand how Japanese conceptions of beauty, nature, space and time have shaped art and life in Japan. For a closer look at some of the ideas we’ll explore on the trip, see Sean’s guest blog post East Meets West; West Embraces East.
