In this seminar we look at the works of Monet across the four seasons. Considering both his technique and his choice of subject matter as he sought to capture the unique qualities of the spring, summer, fall and winter, we will consider how in his works we are offered insight into his ideas about place, time, and change.

Dr. Wendy O’Brien is a philosopher with over 35 years’ experience teaching in academic and non-academic environments, including at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Wilfrid Laurier University, Harvard, Oxford and the Art Gallery of Ontario. She’s conducted many seminars and webinars for Classical Pursuits and Worldwide Quest on a wide range of subject matter that lie at the intersection of philosophy, literature and the visual arts. Recent explorations of the paintings of Cézanne, Picasso, Manet, and Matisse, the Impressionists, as well as of the writings of Montaigne and Proust inspired her interest in spending time looking at the works of Monet.
